Work Out to Wipe Out Domestic Violence Benefit Day (WOWO)

The 8th Annual Work Out to Wipe Out Domestic Violence Benefit Day organized by GFWC IL Morgan Park Junior Woman's Club is coming to a new month, exact date to be decided. Why wait until March to get in a good work out? February is a sleepy, slow time and this event will rev you up for the spring. In addition to raising awareness about domestic violence and raising funds for AND, WOWO is a day to explore one of the many wellness facilities in our neighborhood and the suburbs.

Holiday Giving at A New Direction begins with our Giving Tuesday Reindeer Orders. The woodshop students at the Chicago Ag School make holiday painted wooden reindeer planters for AND to sell. All proceeds benefit A New Direction. Beginning on December 1, Sweet Freaks Chocolates on Wood Street will be collecting $5-$25 gift cards and placing them on the Giving Tree located on the counter in the store at 9927 S Wood. These gifts card will be given to AND families so that they can purchase items for the holidays and beyond. Local grocery store or pharmacy cards are a good choice or cards from big box stores like Target, Walmart or Meier.

Silent Witness Exhibit
Sacred Heart Church, 8245 W. 111th Street, Palos Hills, IL| 3:00 pm In 1990, the Silent Witness Initiative began promoting and education to support an end to domestic violence through community based exhibits. It started with a small group of volunteers in one state and grew into an international presence, with projects in all 50 states and 23 countries.Silent Witness International is the leading voice that honors the lives of domestic violence homicide victims through family support, community connections, and advocacy for change.

Markland Hubbard Month of August Special In Support of AND
Markland Hubbard, 1739 W 99th St, Chicago, IL | Open 6:30 am -1:00 pm During the month of August, Markland Hubbard Gourmet Provision Store is donating 100% of the proceeds from the sale of a Stonewall Kitchens soap and hand lotion to A New Direction. This year's scent, Lemon Parsley, would be a welcome addition to any home. Please stop in for a cup of coffee, a donut, your hand soap and other wonderful gourmet products.

Time for a road trip in support of AND! Tapster is a new bar in Wicker Park with a self-service bar of over 40 different beers, select wines and craft cocktails. Chicago Magazine calls this bar experience "communal and creative" as patrons can create new drinks and talk about them. Tapster will donate 10% of Sales generated on July 6th and 20th to our agency. St. Germaine and St. Catherine Parish Domestic Violence Committees and Youth Ministries are hosting a workshop on teen dating violence and campus sexual assault. The evening will include a screening of the nationally recognized movie, "The Hunting Ground" and will be followed by a facilitated discussion. All our welcome.
