AND Receives Humanitarian Award

A New Direction (AND) was humbled to receive the Venerable Mary Potter Humanitarian Award from Little Company of Mary Hospital, reflecting a growing awareness of domestic violence and its pervasiveness in our society. The award was presented at the Little Company of Mary Hospital (LCMH) Foundation Crystal Heart Ball, held at the Field Museum of Natural History on Feb. 7, 2015.

Rita Ryan, AND’s domestic violence professional, credited the community, the organization’s board of directors, and the clients for making the award possible.

“It’s the community that spreads the word—and the former clients, women coming in as victims and then coming out as survivors, that got the next person in,” she said in an interview with the Beverly Review. “They spread the good word.”

AND Board President Jessica McCarihan accepted the award on behalf of domestic violence survivors who have regained control over their lives. She joined Ryan in thanking the community for supporting AND’s mission and work.
